Dr. Franklin J. Steen

Dr. Franklin J. Steen started practicing dentistry in 1979 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia College – Moorhead, and graduating from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.  He joined the Apple Tree Dental team in the fall of 2019.

Dr. Steen said that he was drawn to dentistry because dentists can improve people’s lives.  This was a lesson that his parents – a dentist and a dental assistant – taught him.  However, he truly made his decision to become a dentist after college, when he realized that dentists can follow many paths to success.  In particular, Dr. Steen enjoys the variety in seeing patients of all ages, helping them feel more comfortable, and working in team settings to take care of patients.  His favorite area of dentistry is restorative and cosmetic RCT (Root Canal Therapy).

Dr. Steen belongs to many organizations and associations.  These include the Concordia College Alumni Association, the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, and the American Dental Association.  He also is a former member of both the Dale Warland Singers and VocalEssence Ensemble Singers.  In his time as a dentist, Dr. Steen has also been a Credentialed Examination and Treatment Dentist for the Minnesota and Wisconsin U.S. Army National Guard.

One thing Dr. Steen would like his patients to know is that he feels that dental care is very personal.  And, he strives to know his patients and complete each case.  Outside dentistry, he enjoys travel and music, including singing and playing the guitar.  He loves spending time with his wife, Lisa, his four children, and the family cat.  Dr. Steen currently lives in St. Paul, but he likes spending time at the cabin near his hometown of Alexandria, Minnesota.
