Dentistry is a natural career path for people with varied interest. It’s an intersection of art and science, teamwork and leadership. It involves problem-solving, attention to detail, and caring about other people. And, there are many different ways to become part of this field. Whether you want to be a Dental Assistant or Dentist (or somewhere in the middle!), there are options for you.

That’s why, with the Career Equity Project, we don’t just tell you about the road to your career. We give you the fuel, the car, and the map to get to where you want to go. (Metaphorically, of course.)
School is expensive, and there are so many choices to make – what if you don’t make the right one, you might be asking yourself. Well, the better question might be: What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Because our goal is to be right behind you every step of the way.
Find the School for You
You have everything it takes to get a degree! Whether you want to go into Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Dental Therapy (wait…what’s that?!), or become a Dentist, there’s a school that has your program. We’ll work with you to help you find the right one.
In Minnesota alone, there are more than a dozen Dental Assisting programs, ten Dental Hygiene programs, three Dental Therapy programs, and we have an incredible Dental School at the University of Minnesota if you want to become a Dentist.

Job Shadowing
Would you like to have a one-on-one experience with a Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Dental Therapist, or Dentist? Come and see what our clinicians do in a day and get an idea if you want to explore a dental career!
Mentorship
Already interested in a career in dentistry? Get set up with a mentor who has experience in your choice field! You will have access to a clinician who can answer all your questions honestly, give you guidance where you need it, and help you get a jump-start on networking.

Dr. Ashley Johnson is passionate about helping underrepresented students succeed in careers in oral health. She has been a dentist since 2007 and has been at Apple Tree Dental since 2015. She has experience working in on-site dentistry and in collaborative practice with a Dental Therapist.
